Introduction

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve resiliency across our services we have rolled out new network infrastructure to provide faster and more reliable bandwidth.

For the majority of you, there will be no changes needed HOWEVER you should check using the instructions below. Our servers have already been switched over to the new network and IP ranges. They are currently running in parallel with the old ranges as part of the transition.

NB. The old ranges will be turned off on December 31st 2009 at which point anything left on the old addresses will cease to work.

MX Records

In order to check if you need to make any changes, please visit the following site:

MX Toolbox

Once you reach the site, enter your domain name and check the results. If your results resemble the following:

SMS MX Records

OR if you have the advanced antispam enabled for any of your mailboxes:

Advanced Antispam MX Records

In either of these cases you do not need to change anything, you are already running on the new structure.

Changing your MX records

If you get results different from this, you will need to change your MX records to reflect the updated system.

Your MX records should point to:

  • mx10.simplymailsolutions.com (priority/preference 10)
  • mx20.simplymailsolutions.com (priority/preference 20)

These changes need to be made with whoever hosts your domain (generally whoever you bought it from). If you bought your domain with us, or transferred it to us then we will have already made the changes on our end. If you think your domain is hosted by us, and your MX records do not correct, please contact us via the support email address (support@simplymailsolutions.com).

Some hosting providers do not allow you to type hostnames for MX records (although that is in fact the standard) and insist you use an IP address. If this is the case then you will need to specify the following IP addresses instead:

  • mx10.simplymailsolutions.com = 88.151.129.10
  • mx20.simplymailsolutions.com = 88.151.129.11

If for any reason you are only able to add a single MX record, just use the first one. Although this is not as robust as using two records, it will still work for mail flow.

SPF Records

The outbound mail server addresses are also changing and if you have setup an SPF record to tell the Internet which servers are allowed to send email from your domain, you should now update your records as detailed below:

  • NEW Addresses to be allowed for SPF records = 88.151.129.0/24
  • OR simply include our spf record _spf.simplyms.com
