Domain registration
All the hosting services at SMS are based on using a domain. In fact even our entry level service MSE Basic includes the free use of a domain.
What is a domain?
The domain is a part of the Internet addressing system which allows names to be used rather than numbers for addresses. So for example:
Web address: www.simplymailsolutions.com
Email address: sales@simplymailsolutions.com
Both make use of the domain simplymailsolutions.com
By registering your own domain you can provide a more professional online image. In addition you can move your web hosting and email hosting between providers and keep the same email address and website URL (as long as you keep your domain registration up to date).
Features and benefits
Domains can include alphanumeric characters plus the symbol – (or hyphen) and are not case sensitive. They come in various types for example:
- .com commercial top level domain
- .co.uk commercial uk domain
- .org non-commercial top level domain
Domains must be unique and are administered by Domain registrars and then implemented for customers by their hosting provider (such as SMS). The domain registrar needs to be told where the relevant services are hosted and then they function automatically.
Pricing
Price and duration of a domain varies on which extension is chosen. Please use Check Availability for individual extension pricing.
Ordering Domains
1. On its own or as an add on to an existing package
Simply click the order button below. Then click "Purchase domain" in the right hand top corner.
2. As part of a package
At SMS when you order your services you can use an existing domain or you can order a new domain. Just click on "Add Domain" whilst ordering your package and it will allow you to put in the domain that you think is suitable and will check on-line whether it is available. It does this by interrogating the servers of our registrar. Once you have found a suitable domain then continue on with Order process.
