SMS has created a quality infrastructure specifically geared to provision of email hosting services. Our servers are placed in World class colocation facilities in UK. We run our own IP network allowing us to utilise multiple Internet connections with automatic re-routing if problems arise. Security has been a major concern and expertise from a leading international expert has been called upon to create and manage our network. SMS has standardised on CISCO routers and Dell servers both top in their fields. For data back up SMS has chosen equipment from NetApps – definitely the gold standard for fast reliable back up and restore of data. Our infrastructure is equal to the best in the industry and superior to that of most providers of email services. Our servers have been virtualised including the ability to instantly transfer tasks if hardware fails.
Our network includes a Mail Director which takes a quick look at messages and sends them to the appropriate server. Because of this we can easily do things such as allow email addresses with the same domain but different types of service (e.g. SMS NexGen and say MS Exchange) and with our unique Control Panel users can themselves do things such as add aliases and many other management tasks. We have also set up our outgoing mail servers to require login with user name and password (the same values as logging into download mail) – but this allows users to send emails even if they are connecting to the Internet other than via their ISP – e.g. a at a customer’s premises or in an Internet café.
